SUMMARY:

This on demand course provides an orientation to the basic requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Learn how to ensure your practice complies with HIPAA regulations covering the security and privacy of confidential patient information. 

OBJECTIVES:

After successfully completing this continuing medical education activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the purpose of HIPAA regulations        
  • Define patients’ rights to preferred communication and access to information
  • Examine the HIPAA requirements to protect PHI
  • Explain the risks associated with electronic communications
  • Designate existing policies that need to be revised and new policies that need to be implemented
  • Identify the need for an information security management process
  • List the resources available to assist with future questions

Continuing Education
