MedMal Direct Suspends Non-renewal and Cancellations for IL Disaster Areas

August 06, 2017

Governor Bruce Rauner declared Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry counties state disaster areas following severe flooding in the area.  Any notices of cancellation generated on or after July 12, 2017, have been lifted.  Additionally, to ensure MedMal Direct policyholders in Illinois counties impacted by significant flooding are not further affected by this disaster, MedMal Direct will not issue any non-renewals until September 30, 2017, in these counties.

This temporary suspension helps safeguards against unnecessary hardship due to circumstances beyond the affected parties control such as disruption of mail delivery and displacement from their residences, businesses and other properties due to the flooding.

The Illinois Department of Insurance is available for filing a complaint regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue by calling the Department’s toll-free complaint hotline at 1-866-445-5364, or file a complaint online at: https://mc.insurance.illinois.gov/messagecenter.nsf
