Prevention of Medical Errors

SUMMARY

This two hour on demand course will analyze various loss prevention measures, examine the elements necessary to conduct a credible and thorough root cause analysis to reduce system failures, respond to sentinel events, prevent medical errors, and improve patient safety, and discuss the five most misdiagnosed conditions.

OBJECTIVES

After successfully completing this continuing medical education activity, participants should be able to:

  • Examine safety systems within healthcare sources
  • Identify the most common quality-of-care violations
  • Define risk management measures designed to reduce medical errors and improve patient outcomes
  • Explain the necessary elements of a root cause analysis
  • Describe the effect of medical errors on healthcare providers
  • Discuss safety needs of special populations and the importance of public education in reducing errors

CONTINUING EDUCATION

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Imedex and MedMalDirect. In order to receive credit, participants must successfully complete the post-test and complete the online evaluation form. You will receive an online CME statement of credit to print for your records.
